My work explores themes of loss and renewal, and our complex relationship with the natural world. I make sculpture, painting and digital images, and incorporate organic elements, found in nature, with imagined, often handmade, appendages, reflecting on our human experience and our precarious coexistence with nature.
Themes within my work are based around loss and transitions. My sculptures combine direct mouldings taken from nature with fluid hand made forms. I work mainly in wax and bronze, but my sculptures also often contain elements of polyurethane, jesmonite, stainless steel or wood. These sculptural investigations are mirrored in my two-dimensional work, where I use painting and digitally overlaid images to further explore themes of loss, change and the evolving state of our environment.
By blending natural forms with handmade elements, I highlight our fragile bond with the environment. My work invites reflection on the marks we leave and our responsibility to a changing world.
Through a multi-disciplinary approach, bringing together elements found in nature with shapes I make by hand, I want to show how closely we are tied to the world around us. My work is not just about looking at nature, but about feeling the delicate balance between the things we keep and the things we lose. Through these sculptures and images, I invite the viewer to stop and think about our place in the world—recognizing both the marks we leave on the environment and the responsibility we have to protect it as it changes. - Aoife Bambury 2026
